Introduction The predictive policing apply to any policing plan, that it is developed and used for an advanced analysis to inform forward-thinking crime prevention. The police department will use a program called COMPSTAT, where the data is run through a process and then it can form a map to show to the police where the crime can occur before it took place in the areas. The police department can devote more time in the areas at risk of a crime. In this paper will compare and contrast the application of information technology (IT) to optimize police department performance to reduce crime versus random patrols of the streets. It will explain how COMPSTAT, as an information technology system (IS), implements the four basic (IS) functions.
